ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear UCUC Families,

We hope that you are all well. As the COVID-19 virus spreads exponentially around the world, we are receiving more notices encouraging the avoidance of large gatherings and schools suspending classes. Today, San Diego Unified School District made the decision to close their schools based on the recommendations from the CDC, Department of Health and Social Services, and our elected officials. It is with great sadness that we announce that UCUC Preschool will be complying with guidelines established by San Diego Unified School District and therefore will also be closed beginning Monday, March 16, 2020. UCUC Preschool will remain closed until advised by San Diego Unified School District to reopen. The tentative date provided is April 6, 2020; however, that date is subject to change based on recommendations from the CDC. All events, parent teacher conferences, etc. will be rescheduled.

This was an incredibly difficult decision for us. We know that typically developing and healthy children usually DO NOT experience life-threatening illness from the disease, but once infected, they can be prolific carriers capable of infecting a lot of people. Those people may be vulnerable to the devastating consequences of COVID-19. All of us are responsible for doing our best to protect our communities.

As a staff, we have been creating contingency plans in case this scenario was to occur. The dedicated and hard working staff at UCUC Preschool want to continue to enhance and facilitate your child’s development. With that in mind, we have made the decision to create social media accounts. UCUC Preschool will stream lessons on Facebook Live, IGTV on Instagram, and through Zoom. We will need your continued support and partnership to accomplish this. Each staff member has taken on a curriculum area that they are passionate about. The teachers have created lessons to continue engaging with the children. We are hoping to run these lessons as if they were a circle time or small group activity. They will be interactive. We want to answer the children’s questions and hear their thoughts. Details and schedule of our live stream are to follow.

The UCUC Preschool staff will continue to work during the school closure. As such, per the family handbook, UCUC Preschool will continue charging tuition and will not be issuing any refunds. All tuition will be used to pay our dedicated and hardworking staff who depend on us. Staff will continue to be paid during the closure. Financial decisions will continue to reevaluated by the UCUC Preschool Board on a regular basis.
